What is Ethereum Classic?

Ethereum Classic (ETC) is a fork of Ethereum (ETH) that began in July 2016. Its primary function is as a smart contract network capable of hosting and supporting decentralized applications (DApps). ETC is its native token.

Since its inception, Ethereum Classic has attempted to distinguish itself from Ethereum, with the two networks’ technical roadmaps diverging further and further apart over time.

After a major hacking event resulted in the theft of 3.6 million ETH, Ethereum Classic set out to preserve the integrity of the existing Ethereum blockchain.

Who are the founders of Ethereum Classic?

Ethereum Classic is the Ethereum legacy chain, and its true creators are the original Ethereum developers — Vitalik Buterin and Gavin Wood.

In July 2016, Ethereum experienced a contentious hard fork when participants disagreed on whether to revert the blockchain to undo the effects of a major hack. This had an effect on The DAO, a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that had raised approximately $150 million in an initial coin offering (ICO) a few months prior.

Ethereum Classic emerged as the network that did not revert the chain. According to the developers, there is no “official” team associated with the project, and its “global development community is a permissionless ‘do-ocracy,’ where anyone can participate.”

Where can Ethereum Classic be traded?

ETC is a large market cap cryptocurrency that can be traded on a variety of major exchanges.

There are trading pairs available against stablecoins, other cryptocurrencies, and fiat currencies, as well as derivatives and institutional investment vehicles. Binance, OKEx, and Huobi Global are among the exchanges where you can purchase Ethereum Classic.
